This is a blank slate.
Untitled Theater Company is a site-specific, student-run theater organization dedicated to creating accessible, high-quality productions while fostering a collaborative learning environment for students of all backgrounds and availability. Founded in the summer of 2023 by two TDPS students, the company has quickly grown into one of UC Berkeley’s most ambitious theater organizations. In just a few semesters, our membership has expanded from its initial team of 2 to over 120 unique contributors since then, including directors, actors, producers, stage managers, designers, and more, representing over 15 departments on campus.
During this time, we have produced 4 full-scale productions, each growing in complexity, budget, and artistic ambition. Our inaugural production, Shakespeare in the Park, required minimal technical design but maximized audience engagement by making theater accessible (and free!) in an open setting. Our second show, Three Vaudevilles by Chekhov, incorporated more elaborate set and lighting designs on a terrace overlooking the bay. Our third production, Debut of the Absurd, hosted at Maybeck’s historic First Church, featured a moving audience, lighting and sound design, immersive audience engagement, expanded production roles, a more robust personnel structure, and a more intensive rehearsal schedule. With each project, we have refined our process and pushed our company toward professional industry standards, while maintaining a friendly, collaborative environment where students of all levels feel welcome.
Beyond our mainstage productions, Untitled Theater has expanded its impact through several initiatives. Last semester, the Untitled Theater DeCal: De-Mystifying the Theater Arts ran its inaugural class and introduced students to the fundamentals of producing, design, and collaborative creation. We also piloted a Pitch Competition Series (ACT ONE), giving students the opportunity to propose new works and receive mentorship, resources, and potential production slots. In addition, we launched an alumni–student networking program that pairs current students with alumni for one-on-one conversations, mentorship, and professional guidance.
Looking forward, Untitled Theater is committed to scaling both its artistic vision and educational mission. With upcoming site-specific productions that merge professional-caliber design with immersive audience experiences, we aim to set a new bar for student theater at Berkeley. At the same time, we remain dedicated to providing a platform for students to learn, experiment, and grow.
This is a blank slate. Every production we produce is an opportunity to reimagine what’s possible and we invite you to help us create it.
With Gratitude to Our Supporters.
